For the marketing as a houseplant, Media Concept Schweiz AG developed the marketing and design concept and the POS advertising material and labels were produced by Gregg Marketing. For more information we recommend this link. In this blog post, however, we report on its use as a food plant in Africa.
The ULU plants come from the so-called in-vitro culture. Here, the smallest meristems are placed on a nutrient medium and grow in packaging units of 10 plants in a cup. Strong roots are formed, as can be seen in the following pictures.
These small plants are then removed from the nutrient medium and "adapted", as it is called in technical jargon. This means they are placed in special Jiffy press pots and develop their roots there. This process takes about 12 - 14 weeks.
As soon as the young plants in the Jiffy pot are well rooted and have reached a size of 10 - 14 cm, they are carefully packed in polystyrene transport containers and reach their destination, e.g. Uganda (Entebbe airport) or Kenya (Mombasa airport) within 36 - 48.
Once there, the plants are planted in 2 litre foil bags for further cultivation and rooting. Later, the hardened plants are planted in plantations and form the first fruits after about three to four years.
Gluten-free starch can then be extracted from these 4 - 5 kg fruits. As our photo below shows, it is used to bake bread, for example.
Media Concept Switzerland and Gregg Marketing are on the road worldwide. We are always your expert advisor when it comes to marketing concepts - regardless of the country. In addition, we can implement the entire supply chain management, as the example of ULU shows.
We look forward to talking to you.
